17 December 2008. UP President Emerlinda Roman participated at the UP Chaplaincy’s Centennial Simbanggabi to mark the end of UP Centennial Celebrations with a mass at the Church of the Holy Sacrifice. At the beginning of the Centennial celebrations, Dr. Roman with Chancellors from other UP branches attended the opening mass by Jesuits at the Philippine General Hospital on January 8, 2008. At the end of the Centennial Celebrations, Frs. Romeo Intengan SJ, former Philippine Province Provincial and Jboy Gonzales SJ, UP Chaplain, presided over the 4 AM mass at the Church of the Holy Sacrifice built by Fr. John P. Delaney SJ in 1956. The Jesuits began serving the community of UP in 1910. The lantern parade in the afternoon of the 17th closed the centennial celebrations.
It also marked the end of Fr. Jboy’s stint as chaplain of the University of the Philippines in Diliman. The students of the Chaplaincy and the university, alumni, and Jesuit scholastics came to support Fr. Jboy SJ in his last mass as chaplain. After communion, the academic community prayed for UP and sang with UP Concert Chorus, UP Naming Mahal, orchestra arrangement by Michael Bulaong of the College of Music, and played by Blue Symphony and Musica Chiesa. The UP Filipiniana Dance Group, who have made their mark by doing liturgical dances, performed by artistic director Van Manalo’s the pre-mass’ Noche Buena, the Gloria, and the recessional, Emanuel. The composite choir included ICTUS, UPSCA, UPCLC, YFC, CYA and Canto Cinco (C5). The servers were from SCMG, Student Campus Ministry Group, formed by Fr. Jboy during his term. Scholastics’ Patrick Nogoy, Rico Adapon, Jun-G Bargayo, and other Jesuits who were spiritual directors of the students came.

Fr. Romeo Intengan SJ, former Provincial of the Philippine Province of the Society of Jesus. He assigned Fr. Jboy Gonzales SJ as chaplain of UP in 2003. He is an UPSCAn and finished medicine in UP Manila. He is also a surgeon.
