The UP Prayer Concert on December 13, Wednesday, was very successful. The Prayer Concert was a joint project of the Catholic Students Community Choir (composed of the choirs of the different religious organizations in UP) and Musica Chiesa, the organization of church musicians. The objective of the prayer concert is to bring different organizations to sing together in a prayerful event. Thus, the prayer concert involved ICTUS, UPSCA, YFC, Canto Cinco, and the CSC Choir.
Many parishioners and students attended the prayer event. The concept was simple. The script is the Christmas story, taken from Scriptures. It began with an opening spiel about the Church of the Holy Sacrifice as a place of prayer and thus invites those who attended to meditate on their life in UP in the light of the Christmas story.
The focus of the concert was the manger placed on the altar. Around the communion rail were baskets of hay. Each person was asked to get one strand of hay for every intention. They bring the strand of hay to the manger only after they have prayed. They could do the exercise repeatedly depending on the number of intentions and the times they prayed with that intention in mind. At the end of the concert, the baby Jesus was placed on the bed of hay — a bed of prayers.
Many thanks to Keena and Bro. Junjun del Monte SJ (for CSC Choir) and Kevin San Agustin for Musica Chiesa for organizing the event. Special mention are the musicians: Carlo Tuazon, Silke and Twinkle Hipolito on violins, Edric Tuazon and Chino Sanchez on cello, Rommel on viola, Aries on flute and percussions, Tristan Hipolito on tambourine and the triangle, Kevin San Agustin on guitar, and Mike Nicci Bulaong on the keyboards. Robbie Grande for being our sound engineer, and the Jesuit Music Ministry for the sound system.
Carlo Tuazon and Mike Bulaong did the arrangements for the concert songs.
